Welcome to Educational Planning ED 501 at the University of West Alabama!
I am looking forward to our conversations about curriculum in the coming weeks. I hope we will be able to create a vibrant online community with this blog. I want this online space to be a place where we can discuss curriculum, voice our opinions, collaborate with one another, and reflect on what curriculum means. Please respond to this post in a comment and include the following information: Your name, where you live, any family information you want to share, where you teach, what you teach (grade and subject), and anything else you would like to share with me and the class.

Hello, my name is Edoli Herrion. I am from Daphne, Alabama. I graduated from UWA with my Bachelor’s in Exercise Science. I played Volleyball here all 4 years and now I am working as a Graduate Assistant with them. I am also working on my Master’s in PE through the fifth year program. When finished, Fall 2009, I hope to acquire a certification in Health and teach back on the High School level while Coaching Volleyball. I am the youngest of six, of whom all have college degrees. I have a dog named Rage who stays with my boyfriend and I in Livingston. I really know nothing of curriculum but am eager to learn. I’m so glad to have an upbeat Professor that is eager to teach (it helps to keep me awake after a long day and volleyball practice).

What is a topic discussed in the chapter that you had not considered as part of curriculum? How has this chapter changed your mind about the topic’s impact on curriculum?
Before the discussion in class and after reading the chapter I did not realize how much a major part of our lives technology is. I guess from being around technology so much I have taken for granted the impact it has on me. For me technology in the classroom is researching topics and sending work via email and now I realize technology can be used across various disciplines which will in turn capture the interest of the students and keep them involved. Technology can be used to make the curriculum more flexible and more hands on.

Howdy – Coach William Matthews here, just call me Matt. I’m from Ozark, Alabama and I have a degree in history from The University of Alabama. I’m currently teaching hs history at Linden High School in Linden, Alabama and am the defensive coordinator for the footall program there. I’m currently taking masters classes and coaching hs school basketball.
Technology is the big bopper for me – Until I got to Linden, I had no idea how instrumental technology was when designing an appropriate learning envioroment.
